What does a speech pathologist do?

Speech Pathologists assess, treat and manage disorders of;

Speech - Saying the words
Language - Thinking of the words to say/write, understanding the words spoken/read
Voice - The sound and quality of voice
Swallow - Chewing, holding and swallowing food and drink
Social communication - Understanding and taking part in social interactions
Assisted Communication - Using systems or devices to augment communication

When should I see a speech pathologist?

If you or your loved ones are having difficulty -

Speaking words clearly
Finding or understanding the words in communication
Using your voice to be heard
Swallowing food or fluids
Taking part socially or understanding unspoken communication
Communicating when speech, language, movement or cognition is significantly impaired
