LANGUAGE

  • Trouble thinking of the words to say
  • Sentences are jumbled and don’t make sense
  • Difficulty understanding what other people say
  • Trouble understanding what is read

 

VOICE

  • Volume has become too low and others can’t hear you
  • Voice sounds croaky, hoarse, breathy, or strained
  • Changes in pitch - too high, too low, or not enough variation
  • Post-surgical paralysis of the vocal folds

 

SWALLOWING

  • Coughing or choking when eating or drinking
  • Feeling that food or drink is ‘stuck’ in the throat after swallowing
  • Trouble chewing or making food easy to swallow
  • Becoming short of breath when eating and drinking 
  • Gurgly wet-sounding voice during or after eating and drinking 
  • Bringing food back up (regurgitation)
